Biography
Michael W. Dirks has been with Compass Advisors since 2010, representing the firm’s Kansas office.
He has been employed by Simpson Capital LLC since February 2001 where he still serves as Chief Financial Officer. Simpson Capital LLC is a management company that manages various operating, investment and trust entities of the Phil Simpson family including Avinger Timber LLC, Legacy Foods LLC (sold April 2008), A.M. Rhyne LLC and the Simpson Charitable Trust. He has direct responsibility for accounting, finance, investing, tax, acquisition and financial analysis of these entities.
Prior to his employment with the Simpson Capital LLC, Mr. Dirks served as Vice President-Finance and Chief Accounting Officer for Republic Group Incorporated (NYSE: RGC) from 1998 until the Company was sold in November 2000. From 1991 to 1998 Mr. Dirks held numerous positions in Republic Group including Mill Controller, Corporate Accounting Manager, Special Projects Manager, and Manager of Internal Audit and Management Information Services. During the time period from 1995 to 2000, Mr. Dirks was integral in analyzing and executing acquisitions, expansions and the ultimate sale of Republic for an enterprise value of approximately $425 million.
From 1984 to 1991 Mr. Dirks was employed by a public accounting and consulting firm. Mr. Dirks is a 1984 graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He and his wife, Cristi, are residents of Hutchinson, KS and have two daughters.
