2016 was a year of changes. We launched our new division, Fortis Group, specifically to provide small businesses with the same expertise and care that the middle market demands. We had some team transitions, helping us to expand our capacity to serve clients. The year was a little slower than our record year in 2015, which provided the opportunity to network, build new meaningful relationships, refine our marketing plan, and expand our capabilities.
As we head into 2017, the seller’s market conditions are strong. Buyers are plentiful, and have high confidence, with a hopeful optimism about opportunities for businesses to improve. Buyers are looking for branded manufacturing businesses, companies in the technology sector, and service-oriented businesses – in a word, that are steady and hold high growth potential. Our local Bozeman economy shows growth, as does the Gallatin Valley and the Rocky Mountain Region. There is a growing labor pool, providing an abundance of specialized talent and opportunities. Businesses in the region have a greater access to financing and investment capital than ever before.
Compass Advisors is committed to maintaining our role as strong advocates for our clients during a sale, both on the buyer and seller sides. In addition, we are taking steps to help companies in earlier stages of their business, developing exit planning services. We want to ensure that business owners take the steps needed to eliminate gaps in business sale readiness, and have ample time to prepare to sell their business to achieve the best value and transition.
